Boston Bombings: Official Stories Change Like Fairy Tales

Some say that the FBI should have been notified sooner by DHS as there are many holes and unanswered questions that still remain regarding the Boston Marathon bombings, others think DHS is hiding something.

WASHINGTON — Tensions on Capitol Hill flare as Department of Homeland Security (DHS) director, Janet Napolitano, was questioned by a congressional member on DHS’s foreknowledge of the older Tsarneav brother’s activities and why nothing was done to counter his alleged activities.

Another attendee pointed out that if we want to stop terrorism in America, all agencies must work together.

Janet Napolitano stated during the committee, “Yes, the system pinged when he was leaving the United States, by the time he returned all investigations closed”, essentially admitting that DHS dropped the ball.

However, other factors could play into this media and governmental circus as there is likely more to the Boston Marathon bombings than reported at this time. For instance, why has there been no official mention of the contractors that were present near the finish line spotted before and after the bombing? These contractors look militarized, carrying 3 day assault packs and wearing Craft International spec ops gear typical of private contractors. In fact, questions by reporters on this very subject have been heavily deflected by officials raising eyebrows on some.

We also have the fact that one of the bombing suspects was reported to have been shot in the throat and missing most of his tongue, now this story is changing as well.

RT reported that Boston Marathon bombing suspect, Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, was interrogated at the  hospital and admitted to authorities that he was indeed involved in planting bombs at the Boston Marathon. According to reporter, Anastasia Chirkina, “The motives behind the two bombings were the wars the United States was fighting against Iraq and Afghanistan”. This information contradicts earlier reports that the suspect was shot in the throat and can’t talk.

In fact the Washington Times reported, “According to Senator Dan Coats (R – Ind.) on ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” the Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, captured Friday night by law enforcement was shot in the throat and is unable to talk to the FBI.

Coats elaborated: “The information we have is that there was a shot to the throat, and it’s questionable when and whether he’ll be able to talk again. Doesn’t mean he can’t communicate. But right now I think he’s in a condition where they can’t get any information from him at all.”

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino earlier on the show had said, “We don’t know if we’ll ever be able to question the individual,” but he did not elaborate.

However, a source close to the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters News that not only was Tsarnaev shot in the throat, but that he had extensive tongue damage.”

All of this contradicts what is now being reported in the media, raising red flags for some.

The Telegraph recently reported that, “Two US officials have also said that the brothers appear to have acted alone and were motivated by a radical brand of Islam.

The officials said preliminary evidence from Tsarnaev’s interrogation suggested the brothers were motivated by religious extremism but were apparently not involved with Islamic terrorist organisations.

The surviving brother communicated with his interrogators in writing, precluding the type of back-and-forth exchanges often crucial to establishing key facts, said the officials, who have not been named.

They cautioned that they were still trying to verify what they were told by Tsarnaev and were looking at such things as his telephone and online communications and his associations with others. Tamerlan died on the night that Dzhokhar was captured.”

The official report is outrageous as the “lone wolf” angle will now be utilized to gain more control over the civilian population in America.

Yet even more preposterous is the fact that officials are claiming essentially that the Internet is a breeding ground for terror activities, further pushing control measures on the populace incrementally.

Then there is still the fact that the official story maintains that the older brother Tamerlan is dead and was actually ran over by his younger brother durring a get-away attempt from police. What is very suspicious about this report is that we have seen footage of Tamerlan being detained and put into a police car, alive. Tamerlan’s aunt positively identified him from the video stating to reporter Dan Dick’s on the phone that indeed that was Tamerlan in the video “naked” being detained by police.

Reporters covering Tsarnaev manhunt get guns drawn on them, treated like suspects by police

Unknown-2

As the total lockdown in Boston is lifted and the manhunt for the remaining Tsarnaev brother continues, reporters attempting to cover the situation are being treated by police like suspects. In some cases officers are even drawing their weapons on the reporters.

James Ford, a reporter with local New York television station WPIX, got himself into hot water when filming police.

“I’ve been removed from crime scenes but never by officers with their guns drawn on me,” Ford said.

One officer told him to get back and asked, “Is it worth your life?”

“I’m tethered to this cable,” Ford said, according to the Huffington Post. “What’s more important, saving the cable or saving your life?” the officer asked.

After a few tense minutes, viewers witnessed the officers walking away with their guns at their sides.

In another incident, Kerry Sanders of NBC told “Today” that one officer pointed his gun at him when he was just talking to a woman near the scene of the shootout in Watertown.

Similarly, Megan Chuchmach, an ABC producer, said that she was swarmed and forced to the ground by officers with their guns drawn.

“I was walking with my camera trying to get a better sense of where the SWAT teams were all congregating when all of a sudden, three officers swarmed with their guns drawn, forced me to the ground, and told me that they were suspicious of my backpack and thought I might be the suspect,” Chuchmach said.

Others like Adam Gabbatt of the Guardian reported that police were yelling at journalists to stay back. Some of the officers had weapons drawn, Gabbatt said.

Time reporter Zeke Miller said that a CNN correspondent was told to move by a cop saying, “You’re in the line of fire, you’re in the line of fire.”

The Boston Police also tweeted earlier, “WARNING: Do Not Compromise Officer Safety by Broadcasting Tactical Positions of Homes Being Searched.”

What Happened The Last Time We Saw Gold Drop Like This?

The rapidity of gold’s drop is impressive, concerning, and disorderly. We have seen two other such instances of disorderly ‘hurried’ selling in the last five years. In July 2008, gold quickly dropped 21% – seemingly pre-empting the Lehman debacle and the collapse of the western banking system. In September 2011, gold fell 20% in a short period – as Europe’s risks exploded and stocks slumped prompting a globally co-ordinated central bank intervention the likes of which we have not seen before. Given the almost-record-breaking drop in gold in the last few days, we wonder what is coming?

This is what it looked like in Q3 2008…

and in 2011…

and now…

and it seems safety is bid dramatically elsewhere as 2Y Swiss rates plunge 4bps to -7bps – their lowest in 4 months…

Top House Dem: On Social Security Cuts, Obama Is Like a Small Child

President Barack Obama’s new budget has much of his own base up in arms, particularly over $ 230 billion in proposed cuts to Social Security. On Thursday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) convened a meeting of House Democrats to hear a closed-door debate on the proposal, which would cost retirees hundreds of dollars a year by tying the growth of monthly Social Security benefits to a new, lower measure of inflation called chained CPI. It was unclear whether the meeting changed any minds, but it certainly highlighted the divisions between the president and his party.

Speaking to reporters after the debate, many Democrats complained that Obama put the cuts on the table far too early. Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.), the top Democrat on the House rules committee, likened Obama’s negotiating skills to the eagerness of a five-year-old. “When I was a kid, I couldn’t play hide and seek,” she said. “The pressure was just too much on me. I would hop up and say, Here I am! This is the way this negotiation is taking place. We’re trying to get a grand plan out of Republicans. It would be better instead of hollering up, Here I am! to get that agreement first, before you put it in your budget.”

Rep. Nydia Velasquez (D-N.Y.) said she could envision putting chained CPI in the budget, but only as a product of negotiations, not as an initial offer, and only as part of a grand bargain with additional revenues, and investments in other progressive priorities. “We don’t know what the other side is willing to offer,” she said. “We cannot give anything on a silver platter.”

Other Democrats were outright opposed to the president’s plan. Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) looked positively distraught. “I can only say that the Progressive Caucus is dead set against it,” he said. Rep. Jan Schakowski (D-Ill.) said she had no idea why Obama is embracing what was initially a Republican idea. “Chained CPI was a bad idea when [GOP Speaker of the House John] Boehner had it, and it’s a bad idea now,” she said, adding that measure would hurt seniors much more than the recent tax hikes on high-earners hurt them. Dean Baker of the Center for Economic and Policy Research has calculated that switching to chained CPI would cut about 2 percent of seniors’ retirement income over 20 years. By contrast, the hit that the rich got from Obama’s New Year’s tax increases was only 0.6 percent.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tex.) said she hopes her party doesn’t cave and line up behind the president. “This is so serious because…it will last forever,” she said. “If we institutionalize the chained CPI, we will literally throw generations into poverty.”

The debate House Democrats attended pitted Damon Silvers, the associate general counsel of the AFL-CIO, against Robert Greenstein, executive director of the left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Silvers adamantly opposes chained CPI. Greenstein argues that the plan could be workable, but only if included in a bipartisan deal that preserves spending on things like antipoverty programs and infrastructure, and contains protections for the oldest and poorest beneficiaries, as the president’s budget does.

Pelosi suggested that many in her caucus thought chained CPI should be preserved as an option for making Social Security solvent in the long run, not as a way to pay down the national debt. “The deficit is not about Social Security,” said Rep. Rush Holt (D-N.J). “What puzzles me is why the president would do this.”

But nearly every House Democrat who spoke to reporters after the event suggested that, other criticisms aside, Obama’s chained CPI proposal is bad politics. “Our brand is the party that brought you Social Security,” Holt said. Slaughter added that she has been swamped with calls by unhappy constituents opposing the president’s idea. “I’m at a loss for words,” she said. “There are so many people living hand to mouth, day to day.”

What Taxes Would Look Like if Normal People Called the Shots

This story first appeared on the TomDispatch website.

After heroic feats of arithmetic and a your-guess-is-as-good-as-mine interpretation of opaque rules and guidelines, millions of Americans will file their taxes by this Monday, April 15th.

Then there’s the bad news.

For anyone who takes a peek at where his or her income tax dollars are going, Tax Day can be maddening. Outsized chunks of our taxes fund the military, rising healthcare costs, and interest on the federal debt. Comparatively tiny amounts go to education, science, alternative energy, and the environment.

Category by category, this is contrary to what Americans want—and what we the people want is pretty clear. Despite near-constant news about how polarized our nation is, a careful look at opinion polls indicates that a strong majority of Americans actually have a coherent to-do list for Washington: we want more jobs, smaller deficits, more education funding, reduced reliance on fossil fuels, higher taxes on the wealthiest, plus—the kicker—Medicare and Social Security benefits preserved. You know, it’s the typical story of wanting to have our cake and gobble it down, too. Right?

Wrong. What’s virtually unacknowledged is that all these things could be done at once. Far from being an impossible set of demands, the collective opinion poll version of the wisdom of the American people is, in fact, a smart set of solutions—or at least it would be, if we had a government capable of following our wishes. That collective wish list would address most of this nation’s urgent challenges, while making us smarter, safer, healthier, less indebted, and better invested in our long-term future. Here’s how.
